Passenger Service during Irregular Operations

"Irregular operations" could have many meanings, from weather or other disruptions lasting a few hours to major catastrophes or competing uses of airports that could disrupt passenger service for days, weeks, or months until normal operations are restored. In the wake of the weather-related multi-hour disruptions in early 2007, an ACI-NA workshop on "Passenger Service during Irregular Operations" will be held on January 17-18, 2008, at the Hilton Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, VA. Only through a concentrated process of localized planning by all stakeholders can we avoid or reduce the impact of future disruptions. This workshop will bring together all stakeholders to identify issues requiring advance coordination and suggest best practices to avoid failures of passenger service. Airport and airline operations and public service staff, airport concession operators, communications professionals, emergency personnel, federal agency staff and others involved in planning for and responding to irregular operations should plan to attend this important workshop

Environmental and Security Resolutions at ACI World Conference

At its annual assembly this week in Buenos Aires, Airports Council International (ACI) members passed two resolutions especially pertinent to aviation critical infrastructure:

1. A call for environmental commitments by airports around the world to further environmental programs and encourage the goal of carbon-neutral airports by making commitments in the following areas: ground service equipment and vehicle fleet emissions reduction, electrical power and pre-conditioned air supply to aircraft at gates, ground transportation, public transport, sustainable development, energy-efficient infrastructure, environmental management systems, encouragement of good environmental practice across the airport community, strategies to reduce carbon emissions, recycling and developing the airport natural habitat. (Global standards were not part of this resolution.)

2. A call for the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to achieve global aviation security standards, particularly with respect to liquid and gel restrictions.
